Awakened (The House of Night, Book 8)
by P.C Cast & Kristin Cast
Synopsis: Exonerated by the Vampyre High Council and returned to her position of High Priestess at Tulsa’s House of Night, Neferet has sworn vengeance on Zoey. Dominion over Kalona is only one of the weapons she plans to use against Z. But Zoey has found sanctuary on the Isle of Skye and is being groomed by Queen Sgiach to take over for her there. Being Queen would be cool, wouldn’t it? Why should she return to Tulsa? After losing her human consort, Heath, she will never be the same – and her relationship with her super-hot-warrior, Stark, may never be the same either…
And what about Stevie Rae and Rephaim? The Raven Mocker refuses to be used against Stevie Rae, but what choice does he have when no one in the entire world, including Zoey, would be okay with their relationship? Does he betray his father or his heart?
In the pulse-pounding 8th book in the bestselling House of Night series, how far will the bonds of friendship stretch and how strong are the ties that bind one girl’s heart?
My Opinion:
First of all, let me say that I love this series and absolutely plan on reading all the next books. That being said, I am utterly disappointed in this installment. I know others were already dissatisfied with Burned but I actually enjoyed that one because I love Stevie Rae and Rephaim's story and it was a nice change from all the Zoey vs. Neferet drama.
Nevertheless, this volume feels much more like a filler than the previous one to me. If you were to summarize it, only 4 important events take place in the whole 290 pages, the rest serves the sole purpose of filling a certain number of pages to call it a book. Waiting almost a year to get that is truly disappointing or should I say irritating? As a fan, I feel robbed. If you don't have enough material for a long series then cut down the number of installments but of course that'd mean less money for the publishers and writers... money is the true ruler of our world :s
Apart from that, the writing is still the same, with its flaws and qualities. While the form doesn't change, it's the substance that isn't up to the quality discovered in the previous novels.
To summarize: Disappointing. I hope Destined will make me forget what seems to be a "hitch on the way".
