Immortal Beloved, Darkness Falls, Eternally Yours (Immortal Beloved series)
by Cate Tiernan
Synopsis: Nastasya has spent the last century living as a spoiled, drugged-out party girl. She feels nothing and cares for no one. But when she witnesses her best friend, a Dark Immortal, torture a human, she realizes something's got to change. She seeks refuge at a rehab for wayward immortals, where she meets the gorgeous, undeniably sexy Reyn, who seems inexplicably linked to her past.
Nastasya finally begins to deal with life, and even feels safe--until the night she learns that someone wants her dead.
Cate Tiernan, author of the popular Sweep series, returns with an engaging story of a timeless struggle and inescapable romance, the first book in a stunning new fantasy trilogy.
My Opinion: Adored it!!!
After reading and loving the Sweep series by Cate Tiernan, I had to try her other books and goodness I am so glad I gave this series a try because it was AWESOME!!
While Sweep was about teenage witches and wizards, Immortal Beloved follows a bunch of immortals. I found the concept quite original though a bit odd at first, it immediately made me think of The Highlander TV series especially since this is a Cate Tiernan series and so those immortals are able to do "magick".
The series is written from the POV of Nastasya, a spoiled, careless, indifferent and over 400 years old whose life changes when she witnesses her best friend, Innocencio, wounding a poor cab driver using dark magick. Running away from a danger she doesn't understand but can feel in her bones, she ends up at River's Edge, a place to rehabilitate immortals by helping them learn "good" magick but also to rediscover the beauty of life which can be easily forgotten after living for hundreds of years and witnessing so many horrible and disheartening things.
Nastasya will have to face the memories of her past, things she buried deeply inside her and would rather forget completely if she wants to become a better person.
I truly devoured the 3 books. It took me a few chapters to really get into the story but once I was in, I was completely hooked and couldn't stop reading.
I adored the characters, especially Nastasya who made me laugh countless times. She's not your typical heroine, she can be a bit annoying at times with her lack of confidence and her utter belief she's darkness incarnate but apart from that, she's outspoken, sarcastic, stubborn...in two words: not perfect, and that is refreshing! Despite her flaws, I really felt for her, I enjoyed following her, discovering her past, seeing her learning to be better.
The other characters were pretty interesting too especially Reyn with his difficult past and always struggling present.
The plot was fascinating, the formula immortals + magick was very well executed by the author. I found the writing greatly improved compared to the first volumes of Sweep.
Immortal Beloved is an easy, exciting and truly interesting series. I've loved it even more than Sweep!
To summarize: 10000000% recommended!!!!
